Valley floor and foothills, two different jobs
Almaden covers a lot of ground in the southwest corner of San Jose. The valley is mostly 1970s through 1990s neighborhoods with sliding doors, aluminum or early-vinyl windows and big rear patios. Above it, the hills carry larger custom homes with views that people want to open up to. We treat those as two different types of project.

Housing stock and what it means for windows
Almaden Valley and the surrounding hills mix 1970s to 1990s tract homes with custom hillside builds. Larger rear patio openings and aging aluminum sliders are common in the valley. In the hills, custom work often wants bi-fold or multi-slide walls that open to the view, and access and span are bigger factors in how the job runs.
Exposure and orientation
Valley floors and hillside lots do not take the same weather. Ridge and canyon openings with little overhang face south-southwest storms more directly. Valley tract homes usually have more eave cover but still need glass packages matched to west-facing heat.
South Bay winter weather arrives from the south-southwest. That only decides a sill when the opening has little overhang.

Things worth knowing before you order
Hillside access
Steeper lots limit where a delivery can park and how glass gets to the opening. We plan this up front.
Wildfire-area requirements
Some Almaden hillside parcels are in wildfire-designated zones where building codes can specify glazing details. We raise it early and confirm what applies.
Large rear openings
Wide patio openings put a lot of weight on the header and sill. Condition and drainage are checked before we commit to a product.
Heat on west walls
Open views and long afternoons add up to solar heat. Glass choice matters more here than in a shaded street.
